When the gun debate gets personal, the "shoulds" go out the window.
At approximately 1:00 AM on November 17, 2015, we were awakened by armed intruders breaking in our door. A man entered our bedroom holding a gun and yelled loudly to wake us up. Eric grabbed his gun and fired, hitting the intruder and chasing him away. Eric followed and found another man at the bottom of the steps with a gun pointed up at us, so he shot him, too. After the men fled, Eric realized he'd been shot as well.
We later learned that 4 men were involved in our home invasion. Although we weren't the intended target, our lives were still greatly affected by the incident. The cases have been closed, with all 4 men pleading guilty.
Since then, we have been working to raise awareness within the community on personal safety and preparedness.
